Saw palmetto, also known as sabal palm, is an exceptionally interesting plant originating mainly from the southern regions of the United States and the Caribbean. Its leaves were traditionally used by Native Americans to weave baskets and mats.

Saw palmetto is also well known as a dietary supplement. It is particularly valued in herbal medicine. Extracts from its fruits are widely used due to their numerous properties.
